On September 15 NEDS arranged a webinar on Covid and eating disorders. The program encompassed a research presentation by Jet Termorshuizen, Centre for Eating Disorders Innovation (CEDI), Karolinska Institutet. She presented results from the US, Netherlands, and Sweden on the early impact on the pandemic and follow-up data from 6 and 12 months. After the presentation a panel consisting of representatives from all Nordic countries discussed the results and their clinical experiences of the impact of the pandemic. The webinar was attended by around 60 participants.

NEDS held its General Assembly via Zoom in November. The board was granted discharge for 2018-2019 and Rasmus Isomaa was re-elected as chairman for NEDS. Rasmus will lead the activities of NEDS for the years 2021-2024. As previously decided, the next NEDS conference will take place in Oslo in 2022 and in 2024 the conference travels to Denmark.
The main function of NEDS is to provide opportunities for Nordic ED professionals to meet and exchange ideas and experiences. Let us all hope this will be possible again in 2021 and coming years.
The 2020 NEDS general assembly will be arranged online via Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A link to the meeting, the agenda for the meeting and other important documents will be posted in advance of the meeting HERE
This is my fifth letter pertaining to the NEDS 2020 conference and the COVID-19 situation. Unfortunately, the development of the COVID-19 situation does not allow us to arrange a Nordic conference in February 2021. The board has discussed the situation together with the Norwegian society and we have decided to once again postpone the conference.
There is reason to believe that the situation will stay uncertain for some time, we wanted to set a new date for the conference, which we strongly believe to be feasible. The next Nordic conference on eating disorders will take place in Oslo in September 2022!
Postponing the conference will lead to some special arrangements. The most important include arranging the NEDS General assembly online and rejecting all submitted abstracts.
The NEDS general assembly is an important meeting for the society. At the assembly, the activities and the economy for the society for the past two years are discussed and the board is discharged. This time we will also elect a new chairman of the NEDS board. I have served my four-year election period as chairman, but if re-elected by the assembly I am willing to serve for another four years. The general assembly is arranged via Zoom on November 16 at 18:00 Finnish time. The agenda for the meeting and a Zoom-link will be posted on the NEDS website www.neds.nu.
The abstract submission system for the conference will be temporarily closed and all submitted abstracts will be rejected. We will re-open the system and send out a new call for abstracts in the beginning of 2022.
Please follow the conference website https://nedsconference.com/ for updates, new deadlines and other useful information.
Stay safe and take care of each other! We all look forward to seeing you all once the crisis is over.
Rasmus Isomaa, chairman of the Nordic Eating Disorder Society
Mark your calendars!
The next NEDS conference will be held in Oslo at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences on September 9-11 2020. The theme of the conference is ”From prevention to recovery”. We are working on the conference web page and it will be online soon. Abstract submission will open in the beginning of 2020, so now is a good time to start planning.
Dear NEDS members,
In 2018 our biannual NEDS conference was held for the first time in Iceland. The conference was in many ways a success, but also yet again a learning experience for us responsible for the arrangements. 2019 will be a bit more relaxed for NEDS, since there is no conference this year. We have however started planning the next NEDS conference, which will be held in 2020 in Oslo, Norway.
The board is continuing its work via bimonthly telephone meetings and we also try to meet in person twice every year. Our next meeting is in Copenhagen in February and we will among other things discuss rules and procedures in relation to abstract submission and conference presentations.
The NEDS conference web site www.nedsconference.com will soon be rebuilt to serve the coming conference. Stay tuned for news about important issues and activities.
My name is Dr. Karen Jennings, and I am postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Chicago, working with Dr. Jennifer Wildes. Below is an invitation with a link to participate in a study “Diversity among Researchers and Clinicians in Eating Disorders” (IRB-approved). The purpose of this study is to survey clinicians and researchers working in the field of eating disorders and describe the diversity among these individuals.
Dear friends and colleagues !
It is our pleasure to welcome you to Reykjavík, to the first ever held Nordic Eating Disorder Conference in Iceland, next September 12th to the 14th 2018 . It is an exciting time for our tiny Icelandic Eating Disorders Association as we are learning from and collaborating with the experienced Nordic Eating Disorder Society. The theme of the conference is Eating Disorders versus Healthy Lifestyle and we have many excellent speakers in the program. We hope you will all participate and take note that abstract submission opens on the December 15th.
Throughout the conference, we ask you to stay engaged and to network with other eating disorders professionals. While you are here, please take as well time to enjoy what our country and our wonderful nature has to offer. Whether you like city life or wild life, you can definitely find it in Iceland the days before or after the conference.
Registration is now open and we want to encourage you to plan your visit in good time to get better prices on flights and accommodation. For accommodation there are other options than hotels or guesthouses, like Airbnb.com and Reykjavik apartments that are worth checking out.
With our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful conference. We look forward to seeing you in Reykjavik next year. For further information please check our website http://nedsconference.com/

here is a short report on what has been happening in NEDS during the spring. The board has held two telephone meetings, one in March and one in May. We are working on rules of procedure for the society to ensure continuity of our work. We have also been involved in the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED) via the Partner and Affiliate Organizations Network (PCAC). Within AED we constitute a Nordic Chapter. We will be participating in ICED 2017 in Prague and try to inspire creating new organisations within the ED field, There will also be a meeting on creating a European ED organisation.
NEDS 2018 in Reykjavik is just over a year away and the NEDS board will meet in Reykjavik in the fall to assist the Icelandic society in creating a great conference. Please follow www.nedsconference.com for updates.
Have a nice and relaxing summer!
