NEDS2022 – submit and register

Dear colleagues,

We are living in difficult times and for many of us the idea of conferences and meetings are not at the top of our minds. Still, we need to look forward and, at least in my opinion, meeting each other in person and building collaboration and understanding are among the most important things we can do right now.

The NEDS 2022 conference will take place in Oslo in September. However, we can´t do this without your input. We are looking forward to hearing and discussing all the interesting research happening in the Nordic countries. Submit your abstracts now! The abstract submission system closes on April 1st. Read more about the abstracts on https://nedsconference.com/abstracts/ or just go ahead and submit on https://neds2022.exordo.com/

Clinicians, welcome! The program for the conference is planned around important clinical as well as research themes. This time we offer invited thematic sessions with leading Nordic experts on binge-eating disorder, guided physical exercise, somatic complications, mentalization, and transgender. Join us to learn about and discuss current challenges in the treatment of eating disorders.

We also have something special for our new and coming researchers. We invite all young researchers (master students, PhD students and post docs) to an event in conjunction to the Nordic ED conference in Oslo. The program includes short presentations and social interaction. Our ambition is that this event will be the first step of the formation of a Nordic network for young researchers in the ED field. The event will require pre-registration and a registration link is found on the conference website.

Please check the conference website https://nedsconference.com/ for keynote speakers, preliminary program, updates, deadlines and other useful information.

Stay safe and take care of each other! We look forward to seeing you all in Oslo in September.

NEDS 2022

 Dear colleagues, mark your calendars

The holidays are over, and we are looking forward to a exiting new year. This is my first letter in 2022, and it will not be the last. The Covid-19 pandemic has been challenging in so many ways. Our field has faced new challenges in both service delivery and also rising numbers of young people with eating disorders. It is time we met and discussed our experiences.

I have some good news and some not so good. The not so good news is that the pandemic is not over, and it is not possible to estimate when it will be. The good news is that we will meet in Oslo on September 7-9, 2022. Mark your calendars!

The abstract submission system is re-opened and you can submit your abstract for papers presentations, posters, and workshop on https://neds2022.exordo.com/ The deadline for abstract submissions is April 1st.

Our invited keynote speakers have shown tremendous patience and are still willing to present their ideas and work at the conference. Please check the conference website https://nedsconference.com/ for keynote speakers, preliminary program, updates, deadlines and other useful information.

Stay safe and take care of each other! We look forward to seeing you all in Oslo in September.

Webinar: Covid and Eating Disorders

On September 15 NEDS arranged a webinar on Covid and eating disorders. The program encompassed a research presentation by Jet Termorshuizen, Centre for Eating Disorders Innovation (CEDI), Karolinska Institutet. She presented results from the US, Netherlands, and Sweden on the early impact on the pandemic and follow-up data from 6 and 12 months. After the presentation a panel consisting of representatives from all Nordic countries discussed the results and their clinical experiences of the impact of the pandemic. The webinar was attended by around 60 participants.

A new year, hopefully a happy one

Dear members,

NEDS held its General Assembly via Zoom in November. The board was granted discharge for 2018-2019 and Rasmus Isomaa was re-elected as chairman for NEDS. Rasmus will lead the activities of NEDS for the years 2021-2024. As previously decided, the next NEDS conference will take place in Oslo in 2022 and in 2024 the conference travels to Denmark.

The main function of NEDS is to provide opportunities for Nordic ED professionals to meet and exchange ideas and experiences. Let us all hope this will be possible again in 2021 and coming years.

General assembly

The 2020 NEDS general assembly will be arranged online via Zoom  due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A link to the meeting, the agenda for the meeting and other important documents will be posted in advance of the meeting HERE

Dear colleagues, 2022 is the new 2020

This is my fifth letter pertaining to the NEDS 2020 conference and the COVID-19 situation. Unfortunately, the development of the COVID-19 situation does not allow us to arrange a Nordic conference in February 2021. The board has discussed the situation together with the Norwegian society and we have decided to once again postpone the conference.

There is reason to believe that the situation will stay uncertain for some time, we wanted to set a new date for the conference, which we strongly believe to be feasible. The next Nordic conference on eating disorders will take place in Oslo in September 2022!

Postponing the conference will lead to some special arrangements. The most important include arranging the NEDS General assembly online and rejecting all submitted abstracts.

The NEDS general assembly is an important meeting for the society. At the assembly, the activities and the economy for the society for the past two years are discussed and the board is discharged. This time we will also elect a new chairman of the NEDS board. I have served my four-year election period as chairman, but if re-elected by the assembly I am willing to serve for another four years. The general assembly is arranged via Zoom on November 16 at 18:00 Finnish time. The agenda for the meeting and a Zoom-link will be posted on the NEDS website www.neds.nu.

The abstract submission system for the conference will be temporarily closed and all submitted abstracts will be rejected. We will re-open the system and send out a new call for abstracts in the beginning of 2022.

Please follow the conference website https://nedsconference.com/ for updates, new deadlines and other useful information.

Stay safe and take care of each other! We all look forward to seeing you all once the crisis is over.

NEDS conference 2020

Mark your calendars!

The next NEDS conference will be held in Oslo at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences on September 9-11 2020. The theme of the conference is ”From prevention to recovery”. We are working on the conference web page and it will be online soon. Abstract submission will open in the beginning of 2020, so now is a good time to start planning.

New year, new activities

Dear NEDS members,

In 2018 our biannual NEDS conference was held for the first time in Iceland. The conference was in many ways a success, but also yet again a learning experience for us responsible for the arrangements. 2019 will be a bit more relaxed for NEDS, since there is no conference this year. We have however started planning the next NEDS conference, which will be held in 2020 in Oslo, Norway.

The board is continuing its work via bimonthly telephone meetings and we also try to meet in person twice every year. Our next meeting is in Copenhagen in February and we will among other things discuss rules and procedures in relation to abstract submission and conference presentations.

The NEDS conference web site www.nedsconference.com will soon be rebuilt to serve the coming conference. Stay tuned for news about important issues and activities.

Diversity among Researchers and Clinicians in Eating Disorders

My name is Dr. Karen Jennings, and I am postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Chicago, working with Dr. Jennifer Wildes. Below is an invitation with a link to participate in a study “Diversity among Researchers and Clinicians in Eating Disorders” (IRB-approved). The purpose of this study is to survey clinicians and researchers working in the field of eating disorders and describe the diversity among these individuals.
